2 issues to mention with 0.74 (2015-03-25 18:01) XenonSurf
As said below, you can chose the IBM setting to get both music and digitized sound, but the sound quality is not satisfying at all. With ADLIB you get good music quality, but no digitized speech (I raised the volume to 200%, I hear it slightly on some occasions).

In-game Ship-ID Book:
Don't use the Ship-ID book (B) otherwise all written messages will dissapear not showing up again, this will greatly hamper game play.

XS
Choose between Adlib music, or PC speaker with digit. speech (2015-01-27 13:27) Cortex
If you want Adlib music (in this case, the digitalized speech did not work for me), use:
SS2 VGA ADLIB HARDC
Make sure you *capitalize* the parameters. If you use lowercase parameters, the game will just freeze right after asking you for digitalized speech.
This will only work if you have the file "ASOUND.SS", otherwise you'll get a "File not found" error message.

Alternatively, use PC speaker and no music, but get the digitalized speech:
SS2 VGA IBM HARDC
Running SS2 in DosBox 0.74 / Linux Mint 13 (Maya) (2014-01-23 18:43) Chicken Marengo
I used the version of the game available at:
http://www.bestoldgames.net/eng/old-games/silent-service-2.php

I had the same issues when trying to run it using SS2.exe so I went through the directory with the intention of trying all the *.bat files within.

By chance I got lucky with the correct one first time round: the game runs if I use silent.bat - this file contains the following command:
SS2 VGA IBM 720

Later, when posting this I'd looked back at an archive of my parents' first ever PC and found that we had to run it using silent.bat way back then, over 20 years ago. I wish I'd have thought of looking there to begin with!
silent service 2 game (2013-01-31 17:52) sectorm
I can't start the game. I get a run-time error: R6003 - integer divide by 0. I'm on a Mac OS X running dosbox 0.74. The game starts by asking about the use of a joystick and digitized voice and then gives me the error. Any clues??
No digitized speech (2012-05-08 21:39) Mousy
How do you get the speech to work? I only get garbled buzzing.
Let me know if you need to see the DOSBOS options setup or any other info you may need.
Thanks
SS2.EXE crashes (2010-07-25 13:35) Lucasfr
I have to launch the game with the following command line in order to works :
SS2 VGA ADLIB HARDC
SS2 in dosbox 0.63 (2004-12-25 10:58) dragonmaster
Runs when you start the game with cdgo.bat;
when you have installed roland you can only get music and no digititized speech;
with adlib you can get both: music and digititized speech;
with ss2.exe dosbox crashes totally; i have used this version of the game: http://www.sarcofago.com.br/index.asp
