It works, but... (2007-05-21 23:05) |

after several attempts, Arena runs in an acceptable way.
I'm using the Dfend front-end, with 20'000 cycles and a dynamic cpu core.
The problem is that music doesn't work well, it's not continuous, sometimes fully stopped but few seconds.
How can I set up the Sound Properties to make music works good? thanx!
p.s. sorry for my errors of grammar, but I come from Italy :P |

Arena Installation Problem (2007-04-09 15:21) |

On the installation instructions (http://www.elderscrolls.com/tenth_anniv/Arena106%20Setup.pdf),
Eevrything works until I get to step 11, and it opens it's new window, there's no prompt that starts. A window that looks like this (http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q34/mew159/DOGWindow.png)
starts up. |

problems with black screen on startup (2006-03-28 17:51) |

DK, I had the same problem running on DosBox 0.63 on Win2K. By accident I discovered that how you mount the directory seems to make a difference. First, in DosBox I was typing "mount c e:\arena" (because that's where I installed it to), but I was getting the black screen problem you describe. The next time I ran it I typed "mount e e:\", then changed to e drive, "cd arena" then "arena" which works for some reason. My suggestion: don't mount the arena directory directly, mount the drive it's on and CD to where you want to be. Hope that helps. Sorry if that's hard to read, what I wouldn't give for some white space... |

Forgot to mention that I'm running the game at full detail level. (Sorry for the poor formatting above, didn't realize whitespace would be removed) |

Runs nicely (2004-10-27 08:58) |

Running 0.62
Output - opengl (have also used ddraw, but it dies if the screen gets pulled away -- failing of DirectDraw API from Microsoft)
CPU - dynamic
Cycles - 30,000
Frameskip - 0
Scaler - normal2x
These settings hover my CPU usage around 93% while running the game. The machine in question is a Pentium 4 3.06 GHz. I can't help but think that setting cycles to 150,000 (5X higher than my settings) would swamp any machine available... Motion and action are fluid, at least as fluid as any machine I actually ran the game on when it came out...
This runs quite smoothly for me. The main things I've found for accelerating _all_ games under DOSbox, but especially 3D games, is to make sure you are NOT using "surface" as your output. Any of the other outputs (overlay, opengl, etc) will provide a factor of 2 speed increase. Similarly, since 0.62 has improved dynamic cpu support, that appears to grant another 2X speed increase.
Very cool, guys! |

I also forgot to mention that lowering the Detail setting in the game will GREATLY improve the speed and sluggish movements. I have it set to a quarter of the Detail bar which is just perfect. |
