With DOSBox 0.72, I am able to run Fallout smoothly with sound. You must disable the GUS support by specifying gus=false in dosbox.conf. Then run the sound.exe setup utility in the fallout root folder, and autodetect your soundcard. This should now recognize a SB. Test the sound then exit/sav. I should mention that I'm also using the DOS32a replacement for DOS4GW, although I didn't experiment to see whether that made any difference. |

The Windows version still works natively in XP and can be obtained for about 5 bucks. Get one, it's worth it! |

v. 0.63
can't get it to work with soundblaster emulation - works with gus but sluggish as hell
as soon as i turn of sound the game works flawlessly (amd 64 3000+ cpu) even at standard cycles (around 25000 on my account) sound seems to have some general problem because game runs good at about 10% cpu-load without sound and there is no way i even get the slightest improvements when using sound and adressing 90%+ cpu to dosbox
fallout lives on its sound so its not really fun to play without. |

With version 0.62: You can play a bit (but it's slow). There's no atmosphere without sound in the Fallout world! :(

You can play, although it is slow, but sound doesn't work, you only get distorted pieces.

Sound isn't working, only static can be heard. Only the main menu and intro videos work, because the game freezes after displaying the first location. |
