Xenobots not running (2004-10-02 09:05) |
Mandingo

|
|
the game is know as Ultrabots/Xenobots.
I have the 'Xeno' version and it crashes under both 0.61 and 0.62 (tried with and without sb)
0.61 says invalid opcode
0.62 says write rom xxx
the game runs fine (without sound) under WinXP
any hint??

The Slow fades (2004-07-02 12:49) |

When the game asks you for your cpu, I think it configures the fades, because if I drop the cpu cycles they slow down, and if I speed up the cpu cycles the fase slows down, while the rest of the game remains normal. So it's not DosBox, it's the game, You can force it to use a cpu settting where the real machine of that cpu would have a clock speed closer to what dosbox is running at.
Speeds that seem to work well for me and what I told the game my cpu is.
80188/80186 - 1000 - works with faster speeds as well, but music gets really slow after the intro stops, sound is disabled.
286 - 1400 - music problem from above, game does not run well, 1500 seems to mess up the fades
386 - can't seem to get a good setting, seems to be somwhere arount 3000
486 - 7300 - no problems noted |

Works in 0.61 (2004-07-02 12:00) |

About the above Fade effects, that sounds like what happebd to me after I managed to get it working under Win98 (NOT in dos mode), everything else was fine, but the fades took about 20-30 seconds, under 0.61 it seems to work fine, I haven't tested it much.
BTW is there any way I can get DosBox to give me midi out from a SoundBlaster driver? I realise that this may not make sense, but really haven't a clue about what programs give to the OPL2 chip, is it enough info to make a midi file?
I ask because I like the intro music, and would like to hear it on a good wavetable synth:) |

HunterZ's comments must refer to an older version of DOSBox since the game doesn't work in 0.58 or 0.60 at all. Error: "Unhandled CPU opcodes" |

Runs playably well. Music and PC speaker sounds are emulated well. May need to lower cycle setting and raise frameskip for proper speed. Fading effects seem too slow. |
