Moved again (2012-12-04 19:18) peyre
I had to move the site again. It's now at: http://peyre.x10.mx/GWBASIC/index.htm

Sorry, atbhost canceled its free hosting, so I've had to move my site. It's now available at:

Running the game (2010-06-15 21:04) peyre
Better yet, you can download a fixed and debugged version from Back to BASICs. It also corrects misspellings (such as "Tholean") and includes a guide I wrote. The guide tells how to get the game running and gives tips and pointers on playing.

The game *can* be run in DOSBox (2010-04-18 20:36) peyre
You can run the game in DOSBox, but you have to change the code a little. Open tmain.bas (LOAD"tmain") and change line 40800 by entering:

40800 TIME=VAL(MID$(TIME$,4,2))

and hitting Enter. Save the file (SAVE"tmain"). Then load trekdemo (LOAD"trekdemo"), make the same change to 40800 in that file, and save it out (SAVE"trekdemo").

That worked for me. For some reason, the game was choking on the original statement--maybe GWBASIC can't handle really high values in random statements, or something.

If the directions above sound confusing, just write me at dos11basic@yahoo.com and I'll email you a copy of the edited files.
Line 40800 reads... (2008-09-07 12:13) MiniMax
40800 TIME=VAL(MID$(TIME$,7,2))+VAL(MID$(TIME$,4,2))*60+VAL(MID$(TIME$,1,2))*60*60
The intro works, but after being beamed aboard it crashes (2008-09-07 12:12) MiniMax
Running it with a debug version of 0.72 I see that it:

1) Starts with a lot of attempts to write to ROM memory.

2) Does a lot of "PIT:PIT 0 Timer at 400.67 Hz mode 2.

3) Opens a file (TREKDEMO.BAS) which I think contains the "animation" of the beaming aboard.

4)Does a a few "PIT:PIT 0 Timer at 18.21 Hz mode 2.

5) Attempts setting the system time (DOSMISC:DOS:Set System Time not supported).

And then it dies (in DOSBox) with "ERROR 6 AT 40800 in module TREKDEMO VER 1.2".

Playable on 0.72 (2008-02-16 06:39) kaylix
Only encountered an error when I accidentally shot a nearby star.
Otherwise no problems.
Note: (2004-12-21 12:10) Lucasfr
When run, this game (written in BASIC) seems to "write 0 to Rom ****"
