getting Dungeon Keeper installed (2012-08-28 18:36) nyllix
I got this game to work (except for sound). The CD for the game that I have is VERY old and beat-up. Still read most data off it though, just TWO files it had probs with, one of them being SOUND.DAT - probly why my sound not working correct right now.
Anyway, steps I did:
1) On my linux system (my final destination for playing this game) I made a folder for installing the game into e.g. "Dosbox_Install-To"
2) Made another folder which I copied into all files off of the CD e.g. "Keeper-FromOrigDisk" (except for those 2 bad files mentioned above).
3) In Dosbox, mounted the "d" drive using the folder from step 2. This way it runs off the hard drive instead of needing a disk to play the game.
4) Still in Dosbox, mounted the "c" drive using the folder from step 1. This is how the game has somewhere to install the game to.
5) Switch to the "d" drive by typing in "d:"
6) Type in "setup" to run the setup program. The rest is like installing any other program, do what it asks you to do.
That's it!
First spell crashes every time (2011-11-25 23:17) jimmyrocket
First spell (possess?) always crashes dosbox (mac OS X - dosbox v0.72)
Can't start setup.exe (2011-10-08 20:33) LadyAmorosaLuckyDulce
I mounted the game using the MS-DOS, and I did everything except installing, which is all I have left to do. The set-up asks me if I want to run it, I click Yes. I wait, and nothing; it won't start. I tried changing the compatibility settings (using Windows 7) to Windows 95. It still won't work. I have a 64-bit laptop, and I think that may be the problem, but I don't know.
speed on 0.74 (2011-06-19 09:46) s3b
I'm having issues with DK in VGA-Mode. As soon as there are more than two monsters on screen (i.e. in the Training Room) I have about 10-12 fps which is way too slow. fighting is impossible.
How can I fix this?
Speed (2011-01-22 09:20) barbarian_brother
Speed is fast enough to play in SVGA mode. BUT it's really to fast when text is vertically scrolling.
We Can't read the level debriefing text... but the real problem is when you have to choose your level in Deeper Dungeons... only the 7 first level ant th 15th one are available, other are scrolled too fast...
The only solution I've found is to manually decrease the amout of emulated cycles to 5% by several hits on Ctrl+F11 when i whant to launch a Deeper Dungeons level
So game is supported, but still from the 100%
Speed (2009-08-07 02:47) Dr. Sassafras
Oah yes. Speed is fine. 2ghz Dual Core Intel running on OSX.

Letters after winning game too fast; Game play speed excellent. Possess creature sometimes fine, sometimes too slow. (might be game flaw)
Works Well (2009-08-07 02:43) Dr. Sassafras
Works very well under .73 There are only 3 problems I have found.

1. After winning a game, the words move too fast to understand. I don't really know the options very well, but after fooling around with them, have been unable to resolve it. I now this is dosbox related as the original did not do this.
2. Dosbox (or maybe the game) can lock up when playing with a unstable IPX network connection. A computer went to sleep when playing a IPX game, and it froze all the computers. Everything should have been running, but it just would not resume. I do remember the modem play being buggy when I had my old machine, so don't know who is at fault here.
3. I think this is a problem with the original game, but when you possess a creature in high resolution mode, it will slow the movement down a fair bit, specially when there is a transparency effect involved. Default is low resolution, but still.
Works almost perfect :) (2008-07-20 00:51) Deathwing
I just installed Dungeon Keeper Gold on my machine (c2d @ 3ghz) using the latest dosbox and I'm amazed how good this works :)
Once in a while the sound gets corrupted, but the game does never crash, so it's possible to save and restart the game
help (2008-03-14 13:32) Gzero

invisible monsters and furnishing (2007-08-07 06:35) lofwyr
With Dosbox 7.0 The game installs perfectly and runs fine with sound
BUT all Monsters and furnishing in the rooms is invisible. Any Idears how to solve this?
Dosbox 0.65 -- warning: needs a powerful computer (2006-12-10 12:15) red_avatar
Dungeon Keeper was designed for Pentium CPUs, so it needs a good strong computer to be able to handle it well. It runs perfectly on my Conroe E6600 CPU. Using the last Dosbox version, put cycles to "auto" to get the most out of your computer.
Still slow with 0.63 (2005-10-23 11:16) jbailey
Just tested with the Ubuntu packaged 0.63 version, and it's still very slow.
Playable, but slow (2004-11-28 03:30) Tithian
The game works perfectly, but I only get about 8-10 FPS on a P4 2.8. It might be enjoyable on a very strong rig (OC'ed A64 or P4EE).
Anyone willing to give it a try?
Sound works! (2004-09-13 14:17) Ygriega
Dungeon Keeper now works completely with DosBox 0.61 incl. sound. I configured a Creative SB or Compatible and got a perfect sound.

Though, the game is still veeery slow on my Athlon XP 2000+. Does anybody have a more powerful machine to test this?
Note: (2003-05-19 02:59) irjvik
Need protected mode (DOS4GW).
