Performs TOO well (2024-01-21 07:17) jamMin
I prefer to use the "auto" CPU cycles setting but that causes Quake to run too fast. Unless there's some way to change the CPU cycles while in the terminal, that needs to be fixed.
A easier way. (2021-09-15 07:08) Isaac_Clarke
Is RetroArch easier to setup AND use than DOSBox? I just want to drop-and-play (refer to previous comment below).
DOSBox Quake Drop-And-Play (2021-09-15 06:36) Isaac_Clarke
I'm lazy, I should learn how to make DOSBox work from the ground up to make Quake and any other game run in Software mode as they did on DOS.
Is there a place where I can just download a something and it just works?
Quake, DOSBox and software emulation. (2021-09-15 06:34) Isaac_Clarke
In short: I want the DOS experience. Difficulties setting up DBx aside does it run the game in software? Is the performance the same as 1996 or is it better because yes?
Quake SW bad sounds (2019-12-31 01:51) Vette67
The game runs good, the sound isn't any good just noise. The sound card is a SB Audgy model 0230, PCI board. Any ideas?
For CD PLAY ISO (2019-05-15 14:32) Pietry
When you mount a CD image, when you start the game, it alternates between tracks 02 to 11. In the console use the "CD INFO" command to view the tracks, remembering that CD / Image volume control is not possible. to play a track use: "CD PLAY X" x = 2 to 12
Quake CD music doesnt work correctly (2019-02-26 14:19) dosdude82
I tried Quake on Dosbox 0.74-2.

The music in quake only works at the title screen.
When I enter the hub world or enter a actual level, I do not get any music at all.
All I get are sound effects.
What setting do I have to change to get the music tracks to play as they should?
Correction to previous message: Music works (2018-09-15 05:32) skipcress
I needed to create and mount a bin/cue image instead of an ISO. You learn something new every day.
v0.74 on Linux: Bugs when playing saved games, no music (2018-09-13 06:54) skipcress
Playable, but plenty of issues (help?). I'm using Dosbox v0.74 on Linux Mint. I bought an original copy of the game off Amazon, created an ISO, which I mounted as my "D" drive, then installed the game. When I open a saved game there are lots of bugs, often to the point the level isn't playable. Things like platforms not raising, or instead of a Scrag there will be a floating medkit, etc. Fortunately, all of these bugs go away if I die and restart the level. Also, there's no music.

Quake runs too fast in Dosbox (even if I slow cycles down)!!
how to get the sound to work (2008-12-08 03:01) jdonnarumma
I read on the internet somewhere to change gus to false in the dosbox setup file to get the sound. So gus=false. It worked for me. Mine has sound.
